Gurleen has experience working with indigenous peoples, addictions, sexualized exploitation, homicide, the criminal justice system and youth throughout British Columbia. When community organizations need a hand, sometimes it is helpful to bring someone in with experience or a unique perspective.    

Gurleen has a flexible schedule and is available for contract work and travel.

Aftermath of Murder: Survivor Stories

Aftermath of Murder: Survivor Stories is multi-part video series giving voice to those who have lost a loved one to homicide. Gurleen worked on Season 2 from pre-production, production, to post-production. With federal funding multiple non-profit organizations and Shaky Egg communications came together to create the series. Rural Youth Study

In 2018, Thompson Rivers University proposed to conduct a study on Rural Youth. Gurleen’s role during the beginning phase of the project was to facilitate the funding and application process. She also developed the marketing letters, research ethics application and created the informed consent forms for parents and youth participants.

Transit Safety & Security Perceptions

In 2013, Simon Fraser University conducted a study with Translink on Transit Safety and Security Perceptions throughout the Lower Mainland. Gurleen’s role as an assistant researcher was to collect data from a multitude of participants in order to gather a diverse sample. The purpose of this study was to address the safety concerns of riders and to increase safety.

Homelessness & Housing Experiences

In 2013, Kwantlen Polytechnic University conducted a study on Homelessness and Housing Experiences in Surrey, British Columbia. As a research assistant, Gurleen collected data in a manner that upheld the dignity of participants. This project was implemented to address the housing crisis in Surrey, B.C.
