Gurleen is a clinical counsellor based in British Columbia, Canada, who provides online therapy to individuals, couples, and families. She specializes in a wide range of challenges and has specific training and experience in the issues that women face when they have been victims of violence. Born and raised in Kelowna, she moved to the Lower Mainland for her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology before completing her Master of Education in Counselling. Gurleen is currently completing her Ph.D. in Psychology.

She works through a Response-Based lens, which is supported by ideas from Narrative Therapy, a Family Systems Framework, Feminist Theory, and Critical Race Theory.  Being culturally competent in therapy is incredibly important when working with racialized populations because culture, religion, and race are like an onion in how layered they can be. There are many unwritten rules and cultural intricacies, and having that understanding takes the burden off the client to explain historical and cultural details. She speaks both English and Punjabi.

She has dedicated her career to working with racialized populations through her research on racism. She has presented nationally and internationally on her research of South Asian Canadians and their experiences with microaggressions.

Gurleen has chosen to provide online counselling for many reasons, including convenience, safety, affordability, service accessibility for those who live in remote areas, service accessibility for people with physical limitations, and other challenges attending in-person sessions. She is also available to provide diversity and cultural competency training on modern-day racism in the Canadian context to organizations, corporations and schools.
